Reaching Oklahoma's African-American Community

        With The Gospel

Christian, By Conviction!   Southern Baptist, By Choice!

Goals

To support our current African-American pastors and churches throughout the state

This will be done by gaining access to the needed training and materials our churches need, and getting to them, when they are available.

Most of our African-American pastors are bi-vocational, and cannot attend training meetings at the Baptist Building, or their Association.

My goal is to get this information, and teach it to them and/or their people!

To help in the strategic planting of churches in Oklahoma.

This includes find the areas which need a church plant, finding the right man to plant a church in that area, helping that man get the training and support he'll need to succeed, monitoring that man to ensure that he is most productive, and helping the mission church understand what it means to be Southern Baptist.

To help the BGCO and Associational leaders communicate with, and understand the needs in the African-American community.

I want to be a resource to the BGCO staff, as well as DOM's, who desire to increase their awareness and sensitivity regarding how African-American's think, 'hear things' and feel about things.

African-American's are passionate people.  Our preaching focuses on 'Inspiration', while others focus on 'Information'

When understood properly, others will see that our Gospel is not different from the one they preach ... it just looks and sounds different!  But in the end, Christ is preached!

To remind African-American pastors and churches that we have a responsibility to 'pay it forward' to the next generation of Southern Baptist

Most of our African-American churches are what I consider 'first generation' churches.  By this, I mean that they are being led by the first Southern Baptist pastor, in their history.  True success, in my opinion, will be when one of our churches needs a pastor, and that church will only consider calling another Southern Baptist pastor!

It will take time to train our churches in the benefits of being a Southern Baptist, as well as developing a new generation of African-American Southern Baptist pastors.
